Ancient Facts of Ancient Egypt

• Most of the Egyptian art that survived today has to do with religious beliefs.
• Most of it, like tomb paintings, mummy cases, models and statuesis related to their dead.
• Did you know that all artists had to learn how to write? ( In hiroglyphics of course- not in cunehiform, like mesopotamia.)
• Usually, Egyptian boys followed the same path/job as their parents. ( Like a tradition!)
• If a craftsman(artist) had no sons, he would teach his daughter(s)
• All artists were considered as craftsmen.
• Artists trained at five years old along other craftsmen, like sculptors and jewelers.
• Unlike today, Egyptian artists didn't sign their art because they worked in teams. (Today, I would have got sued for 5 mil!)
• Did you know that Egyptian paint really wasn't artificial paint? It was finely ground minerals mixed with vegetable gum or egg- ( it gave it a smooth finish)
• And this was ANCIENT FACTS OF ANCIENT EGYPT!

House Decoration!

Most egyptian houses were decorated with frescoes. ( These were ancient paintings done on wet plaster, like the one above) They used frescoes to enrich their personal space, also to detail important events from their lives or the lives of pharohs who they served. That would be cool! Every wall in your house you would see yourself and remember important or fun events from the past! They also had ornate tiles, many with symbols of nature, like lotus blossum in a repeated pattern. (A whole building about me!)

About Pottery......

Pottery of ancient Egypt was very unique and creative. This is actually my favorite style of art of ancient Egypt! It is because you almost never see the exact same one, and they are very decorative! (I like the one above because of the cool swirls) In egypt, instead of using clay, they just used mud from the Nile. The pots were burned in a kiln, and turned a reddish/brown color. The Egyptians shaped the mud to make storage jars, cooking pots, and serving vessels.( I would've made a cookie jar!)

Egyptian Tools!

Instead of drills, cranes, and other items that we use today, Egyptians pretty much just used simple tools. To sculpt sculptures, all they used were sharp-edged stone!(or copper and bronze) Why can't we be so simple? Like, they use mud bricks instead of bricks! (mud bricks are bricks made of mud....if you didn't know....) To make mud bricks, they used square cutting tools made of bronze and copper blades. Pretty simple, right?

About Egyptian Art

Egyptains made many styles of art. Some they usually did, and some they do only for certain occasions. They made many things that I didn't even know existed! It would have taken a while.... Anyways! As you know, egyptians made lots of pyramids. They made them for their pharaohs or important people when they died. Many of them made canopic jars, for putting the organs in during mummification. They also made different sculptures,buildings, and temples for different occasions, like the 1 above. Also made many other arts, like masks, baskets, paintings,potterey, and jewely! They could have used masks for celebrations or praising gods. They also made portraits of parts of their lives in their house!
